Location: Probert Memorial Forest, 111 West Main (Route 1) Searsport,  1/2 mile south of village on inland side.

The Maine Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation is planning to plant 600 chestnut seeds in the Probert seed orchard. Probert Memorial Forest was donated to Maine Woodland Owners by Bruce and Joan Probert.  A great example of a young healthy mixed growth woodlot, Probert Memorial Forest also features a chestnut seed orchard. One percent of the chestnuts planted during this event  are expected  to grow into chestnut trees that will produce blight-resistant seeds for chestnut restoration plantings in Maine in the 2020s and beyond.

Coming from north:   Go past Searsport village on Route 1, then 0.2 miles past Prospect St.
Coming from south:, Go 0.2 miles past Cobb Rd (left) and yellow book store (right).
Home of Bruce Probert, red house and barn at top of circular drive, "Probertville" and "Tree Farm" signs on barn. Park near house, walk 200 yards across field following orange flags, cross tree line, then you will see chestnuts.

Snacks will be provided. Bring your own water, sunscreen, bug & tick repellent. It is not necessary to be at the planting the entire time.  Come when you can, but please confirm with Eric Evans at 207-236-9635 or 706-6913.
