Location: Addin' Tree Rings Farm, East Dixfield

You are invited to join the Upper Kennebec Valley Chapter of the Maine Woodland Owners Association to walk around Addin Rings Tree Farm in East Dixfield.  Landowner/MWO member and Tree Farmer Ben Welch will give us a tour of the Forestry practices he has implemented over the last 40 years.  Some lessons for the day will include mapping, inventory and timber stand improvement (TSI). Harvesting in the past has included species selection, thinning, firewood cuts and biomass harvesting to create small clearcuts to encourage pine and oak regeneration.  We will also see the results of many years of pruning. The management done has improved wildlife habitat as well.  We will also discuss government funding for such practices that have been done on this property including forest road access.  So many subjects to cover!  This is a great opportunity to see the results of 40 years of practices and get some ideas for your own woodlot.

Follow Rt. 4 into North Jay, or Rt. 2 into East Dixfield to Rt. 17.  Turn east from Rt. 2 or west from Rt. 4 onto Rt. 17 and look for signs on the Morse Hill Road directing you to the woodlot.  Any questions contact Patty Cormier at 592-2238, or patty.cormeir@maine.gov.  This is a rain or shine event, free to all, and open to all.  There's no need to pre-register.
