Description:

Location:  109 Bacon Road, Mercer

Jerrod Thebarge, of JT's Finest Kind Saw in Norridgewock, will provide basic instruction and demonstrate the use of a brush-saw in improving your woodlot, including thinning for regeneration, and dealing with stump-sprouts. Sharpening the saw in the field will also be demonstrated, as well as the use of a chainsaw extension pole pruner.

The Holt lot in Mercer received an extensive silvicultural thinning through a biomass harvest done by Trees Ltd. of Sidney eight years ago. We’ll walk about and see how that looks now, discussing issues of interest. This Upper Kennebec Valley chapter event is sponsored by Maine Woodland Owners, and open to the public.

Directions: From Route 2, turn onto Beech Hill Road at the blinking yellow light in Mercer (Community Center.) and go 2.5 miles, turning right onto Bacon Road just as the road flattens out. Go 0.5 miles to white cape farmhouse with red barn, Uphill Farm. Contact: Patty Cormier, 592-2238 or patty.cormier@Maine.gov
