New and expanded opportunities for forest product manufacturing in Maine
Maine is pursuing new and expanded opportunities for forest product manufacturing on many fronts.  Join us for the last Forum of the season as we hear from two organizations – Our Katahdin and the University of Maine – as we learn about their efforts to build upon the state’s diverse forest products industry.

The University of Maine is one of the leading forestry schools and forest product research institutions in the country.  They have recently hired someone to help connect that research with the industry – helping Maine expand existing markets and build new ones.  From growing and harvesting all the way through finished products, the University is seeking new partners to help make the forest industry more efficient, robust and prosperous.

Our Katahdin is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization working to promote community and economic development in the Katahdin region. Along with many other efforts, the organization acquired the Millinocket mill site, and has been working to attract investment – particularly forest product manufacturing – to the site.  In February, Ligna Terra announced plans to build a cross laminated manufacturing facility at the site, with plans to employ up to 100 in making this new building material.
