Thomas C. Doak

Executive Director

Tom currently serves as Executive Director.  A 3rd generation woodland owner, Tom graduated from the University of Maine with degrees in Forest Management and Wildlife Management.  He has been a Licensed Professional Forester for 30 years. Early in his career he worked as a forester and land manager on Maine’s state owned forestland working for the Bureau of Public Lands (BPL).   He became Director of the Maine Forest Service in 1999 and served in that capacity for nearly four years.  He joined Maine Woodland Owners in 2004.


Debra L. Ladd

Administrative Assistant

Debbie has a degree in Secretarial Sciences. She joined Maine Woodland Owners in 1987 along with her father, Abbott, who was the first Executive Director of Maine Woodland Owners, and together they established the Augusta office. Debbie has an important role in the day-to-day operations. She has had a life-long learning experience in good management and conservation of woodlands.

Harold Burnett

Land Trust Forester

Harold serves as part-time Staff Land Trust Forester. With over 30 years experience as a consulting forester in Maine - which at times included work with Maine Woodland Owners, Harold brings tremendous knowledge about the needs of woodland owners in Maine. As Staff Forester Harold will be primarily in charge of the land acquisition process for the organization's land trust program. Separate from his employment with Maine Woodland Owners, Harold will continue to serve as a private consulting forester on a part-time basis. Harold joined Maine Woodland Owners in June of 2019.


Jennifer Hicks

Director of Communications and Outreach

Jenn serves as Director of Communications and Outreach. Jenn graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Education and Antioch University New England Graduate School with a degree in Environmental Studies and has 25 years as a conservation professional in a variety of capacities starting as an educator with Chesapeake Bay Foundation and later leading programs for small environmental organizations in New Hampshire and Washington DC. From 2004 - 2016 Jenn was a consultant on the Maryland Eastern Shore where she provided organizational and program development expertise for community-based organizations and municipalities. In 2016 Jenn became the Executive Director of Pemaquid Watershed Association in Damariscotta and in 2019  served as the Development Coordinator for Teens To Trails in Brunswick. Jenn joined Maine Woodland Owners in July 2019.
