Community
We were built upon a community of woodland owners in 1975 that had a desire to share information and help new woodland owners with their questions. We now have several thousand members. Our 10 statewide chapters deliver more than 50 workshops each year on topics ranging from wildlife habitat to invasive pests and plant identification and control. Joining us opens the doors to a woodland owning community.

Advocacy
Each year our experienced staff is fully engaged on important issues to landowners, including forestland taxation, wildlife habitat and management, the changing wood markets, technical assistance available to woodland owners, environmental regulation, and making sure that the interests of woodland owners are represented in the state legislature. The internet and social media have in part, changed the way woodland owners receive information. Still, there is no substitute for the presence we provide at the statehouse and in dealing with government agencies.

Knowledge
Members receive our 20 page monthly publication – Maine Woodlands. Each edition contains a wide range of topics and the latest news of interest to woodland owners. Whether you are a new to woodland ownership or a longtime owners, you will find our publication informative and interesting reading. Our signature publication, Maine Woodlands is only available to members. As a member, you have direct access to our experienced staff which can help you with any questions you have about owning and enjoying your woodland.

Legacy
“What will become of my land”? - A very common question among woodland owners. Landowners who have been good stewards of their forest want it left in the hands of someone who will treat the land as they have. Our land trust program accepts tax deductible donations of woodland that we commit to managing sustainably, consistent with the donor’s wishes. Funds generated from timber harvesting are used to support the work of our organization. We also consider appropriate working forest conservation easements.
