Forestry Outreach Coordinator

Maine Woodland Owners is a membership-based statewide organization established in 1975 dedicated to advancing the interests and serving the needs of Maine’s family woodland owners -- those owning from a few to a few thousand acres. As a non-profit educational organization, Maine Woodland Owners is committed to fostering sustainable forest management practices and empowering landowners to steward their forests effectively.

We are now seeking a dedicated individual, with a natural resources background (forestry preferred), to assist woodland owners and foresters with the implementation of practices to enhance their forestland. This new position is a three-year shared position with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). There is a possibility of a two-year extension. Supervision, daily direction, training, and support will be provided by Maine Woodland Owners and NRCS staff. The position will be located at Maine Woodland Owners’ office in Augusta, Maine with occasional time spent at NRCS offices.

Responsibilities:

- Be familiar with all cost share programs available to woodland owners.

- Work closely with woodland owners to explain, encourage the use of, and qualify them for forestry cost share programs.

- Promote forestry and land improvements through one-on-one interactions with woodland owners, as well as through in-person and on-line group interactions.

- Provide feedback to NRCS on ways to improve delivery of their technical assistance programs.

- Support and assist existing NRCS approved Technical Service Providers (“TSPs”) with problem solving and qualifying their clients for programs.

- Actively encourage more individuals to become TSPs, and assist with their training.

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field.

- Strong knowledge of natural resource management principles.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) to effectively engage with diverse landowners and stakeholders.

- Willingness to travel to various sites and work outdoors in varying conditions.

- Strong understanding of effective social media communications.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Licensure in Maine as a Licensed or Intern Forester.

- Knowledge of financial assistance programs and incentives related to forestry management for landowners.
