Tick Alert: Adult Deer Tick Season

     In Maine, this is the time of year that large numbers of adult ticks are feeding.  Here are three pointers from George Smith’s recent blog:

1)       Dog ticks are in hibernation now, so any tick you encounter is most likely a deer tick.

2)      According to the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, about half of the ticks out there are infected with the Lyme bacterium.

3)      Be sure to do a tick check and remove them promptly.  SWOAM has tick removal spoons available for purchase on their website.
