The 4 Best Hikes for Enjoying Maine’s Fall Foliage
Anyone involved in woodland ownership carries a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. Thankfully, for landowners in Maine, the state hosts some of the most spectacular fall colors and landscapes in the country. Before heading out on your fall hikes this season, you’ll want to conduct some research on the following places.
Acadia National Park. It’s not exactly a well-kept secret, but any list of fall hiking destinations in Maine isn’t complete without including the gorgeous 125 miles of hiking trails found in the Acadia National Park. If you’re looking for exceptional autumn colors, locals suggest the 5.4-mile Schooner Head Trail.
Portland. There is plenty to do in and around Portland, and hiking is just one of the ways to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors in this coastal town. The color really starts to come alive in late August and early September.
Camden Hills State Park. Nestled just outside of Camden, Camden Hills State Park is filled with beautiful fall scenery for hikers and drivers. Try hiking up to the summit of Mt. Battle for beautiful views.
Rangeley. Outside of Rangeley you can find the beautiful Organon, the former estate of psychologist Wilhelm Reich. There are 160 acres of natural woodland with a unique trail system to enjoy the turning of the leaves.
While Maine offers beautiful hiking year-round, the best time to check out the more than 50 unique types of deciduous trees is during mid-September and early October, when the beautiful orange, yellow, and red color palette is on full display.
